Love Potions?
Everyone experiences love and heartbreak and with the use of hormones, there will be a better chance of you and your parter having a better relationship. The summary of this article is when treated with hormones, a couple could have more of a loving relationship. For example: when scientists used hormones oxytocin and vasopressin to test on sheep and the hormone power made the sheep form an immediate bond with a lamb that wasn't even hers. Also, scientists can now do compatibility tests using your genes to see if you are compatible with your parter.
Personal Response: I find this very interesting because you can fix a relationship through hormones and make it work better. Also, the compatibility test seems like it could work with couples who would like to know if they are compatible or not. To me, this isn't what I would choose to do because if the love isn't meant to be then the love isn't meant to be.
Lucy--
Lucy the Chimpanzee was raised by humans for a project to see the intelligence of chimpanzees. Lucy’s adoptive parents considered her a daughter because she became so human-like. She learned 140 signs and learned how to make tea. She only found sexual attraction to humans and was frightened of other apes. When Lucy reached the age of 12, she was very destructive in her household and was sent to a chimpanzee rehabilitation center and was showing signs of depression. She never reproduced and her adoptive parents spent a few weeks with her at the center. Eventually, Lucy was released into the wild and about a year later a person from the center found Lucy’s skeleton without hands and her head detached, showing that Lucy had probably been poached.
Lucy was getting used to spending time with chimpanzees and she was in the center with them as she was sent into the wild. She was ready to go into the wild and she and the other apes left after saying goodbye to their caretakers at the chimpanzee rehabilitation center.
What I learned from Lucy is that chimpanzees are intelligent when they are mentally stimulated. What was worth it was seeing how Lucy was able to do human like things and I never knew an ape could do. Was it fair to Lucy? Probably. Because she was able to learn about humans. But at the same time, she never got to live her life the way an ape would. What I will take away from this is that the story of Lucy is very powerful in the way that I see her become more human and less ape like. For example, she found humans attractive instead of chimps and she knew how to make tea. Lucy’s story is amazing and it is step forward in science.
Innocence Project --
Marvin Anderson was convicted for rape, abduction, sodomy and robbery in 1982. The only evidence that showed that it could’ve been him was an eye witness that saw a black man raping a white woman. The police only knew of one man who lived with a white woman. So that made him a promising suspect. He was sentenced to 210 years in prison and after 15 years in prison the guilty person stepped forward and DNA evidence proved Marvin innocent.
DNA technology has saved many lives and has justified unsolved murders and crimes all around the world. 20 years ago, we didn’t have the ability to track people through DNA and the only way to know was through an eye witness. We had to learn that DNA is in our fingerprints and when someone uses a tool or anything that he/she would touch during the act of the crime, the investigators can collect the DNA sample and run it though tests to see who that person was.
This story is very powerful in the way that he was convicted 210 years for something that he didn’t do. DNA tests show that he was innocent and they found the person responsible for the crime. Science, to me is very important and without it, these innocent people would still be in prison and for some of them, they would be in prison for the rest of their life. DNA testing has saved many lives and proven a lot of people innocent.
